Special Information from Mrs. Webber

It is hard to believe that we are not only in the fourth quarter already but that the end of the 2017-2018 school year is literally just around the corner! What a year it has truly been! The goal of every school year is growth and this year in our classroom, we have experienced growth on every level. We have so many reasons to celebrate, there have been gains in academics, language, behavioral management and independence. The kids have faced a lot of personal challenges and change and have embraced them with grace. It is such a joy to not only be able to witness their growth, but to also be a part of it is something I consider as a blessing.

As all of you know I am expecting a baby and my due date is fast approaching. With the exception of going into labor beforehand and or medically needing to leave earlier, my expected last day for this school year is going to be Tuesday May 1, 2018.

My position will be filled by substitute, Samantha Byram or Mrs. B for short. She is coming to us from Spectrum of Hope and is full of enthusiasm, resources and has a great deal of experience with ABA which are the principals and methods we use in the classroom at this time. I am very confident in her ability to successfully complete the end of the school year while maintaining our classroom standards, behaviors and academics. The other staff members in the classroom will remain: Edana Fontenot and Tonya Sparks will remain as paraprofessionals during this time and we will also have a third paraprofessional position active in the classroom during which will be filled by substitutes.

We have been very luckily to have had Mrs. Byram join our class already, on Monday April 16th she arrived ready to dive in head first and the children have taken very well to her! Our plan is to have Mrs. Byram stay with our classroom until I go on leave, allowing the students to become comfortable and adjust to her as well as allow her to adjust to a new classroom and get to know the students before it is time to take over. This transition has been very positive! Mrs. Nagel will also be maintaining a close relationship with our classroom as always ensuring that things are running smoothly and supporting where/if necessary.

During the time of my maternity leave if/when you have questions, concerns or needs, you should still send an email to my school email address Mrs. Byram will be checking my email daily, and I will also be checking my email daily as well and will communicate with the classroom staff if I see something immediate so it does not get missed.

Rodeo Run is COMING

Information on the Rodeo Run that is taking place next Thursday, April 26th is going home tomorrow in Wednesday folders as to what time students will be running in the Rodeo run. At this time the current schedule is set as follows:

Mrs. Webber’s 4th Grade students will be running in the Rodeo Run during the 4th Grade time slot of 8:50-9:45.

3rd Grade students will be running during the SLL time slot.

If for whatever reason the sensory level is too high or your child is overwhelmed, we can/will be bringing that student inside and will try again during the SLL time slot of 9:45-10:40.

The running during the SLL time slot will actually take place from 9:45-10:15 however the time slot is extended to allow for necessary adjustments if needed.

As a reminder you are welcome to come and cheer on your student, please save yourself time and pre- register using the form that is going home. If you cannot pre-register you will need to sign in in the office before being allowed to go outside to cheer your student on. All forms must be returned by the due date.

In the next few days I will be sending home a Letter and E-mail regarding more important dates coming as well as a few reminders for the end of the year! I cannot believe “end of the year” is even being talked about already!!

Stay tuned for more information!

The Polar Express Holiday Celebration

Tomorrow: December 19th

Mrs. Webber's Class will be joining the 3rd grade students in the Library to ring in the Holiday season by watching the movie The Polar Express and enjoying delicious snacks.

Students are invited to wear pajamas for the occasion.

Note: Because the schedule originally called for 3rd and 4th grade to go on different days, to better staff the classroom and ensure that the students are being supported fully, I chose for us to go as a class to the 3rd grade showing on Tuesday rather than split the class 2 days.

With this change in our Schedule our 4th grade students have a few options:

-4th grade students can wear pajama's both Tuesday and Wednesday.

-Bring pajamas to change into on Tuesday so that way "day" clothes are on like our other 4th grade friends.

- Wear pajamas only on Wednesday.

Do which ever is best for your student(s).

As always don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions or concerns.

Don't forget EARLY DISMISSAL is on this day!!

Hello awesome families!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break filled with rest and blessings. My Family stayed home caught up on some much needed time together, we even grew by 1 more :) We rescued a 5 month old black lab/Great Dane named Eleven and she is perfect!

We have spent the last 4 days settling back in from break with just finishing up units on life then and now (colonial days vs now, holiday traditions, and reading all types of material related to Thanksgiving and being thankful) we are going to be working until Christmas break on academic activities to gear us up for the holiday season. If your family needs us to work on any social stories with your kids that help for holidays or even breaks please do not hesitate to reach out and let me know the needs so we can help.

In math we work on weekly topics,  not only working towards achieving and exceeding individual goals, we are also working on introducing new skills such as expanded form, time, measurement, reading and understanding word problems, for some we are into multiplication and division and for others we are tackling understanding numbers and corresponding them to correct amounts.

In language arts we break it down into reading and writing portion and have weekly spelling activities as well. I have weekly focus topics. We have not only been reading and concentrating on comprehension but also have been focusing on things such as, nouns and proper nouns, compound words, homophones, contractions, adjectives, verbs, and have begun breaking down components of what makes a good complete sentence working on writing complete sentences with correct format and grammar. It has been fun hearing and seeing some of these sentences really start to build into complete sentences. For writing we use a number of tools, we use the smartboard and unscramble sentences so they make sense, or even type on the smart board, we also have devices called Forte’s which are like little portable type writers and give 2 students at a time the ability to type their work out. Tomball also provides a program called CoWriter and Snap and Read which is a very helpful tool being taught to the kids who frequently use the computer or are typers, to help them develop complete sentences or even have the computer read material that may be too advance. Please let me know if you would like your child’s school email and password so you can let them use this program at home as it is a google chrome extension.

We are just finishing up a unit in science on Natural Disasters and weather safety during those events, the students got to relate with the recent natural disaster that impacted our area, Harvey, and took a deeper look into floods, avalanches, earthquakes, and forest fires (even learning about the recent fires out west and one that hit us close to home years ago in Bastrop County).

In Social Studies we just finished up a unit on the first Thanksgiving, learning about the Native Americans the Pilgrim’s voyage to America, their feast and honed in on friendship and helping each other as well as being Thankful. Hopefully everyone got to see one of the many activities we did in class, we made turkeys listing just a few of the things we are thankful for. The students got to celebrate the end of the unit and Thanksgiving finally being here with watching the classic Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

As you can see we keep very busy here in the classroom and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
I love having your kids in class every day and love seeing them grow!

Do not hesitate to reach out to me at any time if there are ever questions or concerns or even needs you may have.
