We will begin our study of Life Science this week.  We will start with a study of biotic (living) and abiotic (nonliving) factors in various ecosystems and how these factors are interdependent (they depend on one another for survival).  We will be studying food chains and food webs in this topic over the next couple of weeks before spring break.

Please return course verification sheet on Monday!

There has been some confusion about the course verification sheets, a white form sent home on Wednesday.  I wanted to clear that up for everyone.  This sheet MUST BE RETURNED to school, even if you do not need to make any changes to your students schedule.

Please make sure this is returned on Monday, as I will have to contact you to get it back otherwise.  I really appreciate your help with this, and if you have any questions please just let me know!

Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much for all of the yummy treats!!! I feel so blessed to spend my day with your precious children, and today I felt so loved by each of them! Have a very Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Love, Mrs. Abueita

Christmas Party Info

All parents should have received information about the classroom Christmas party either in the form of an email from our room mom or a typed letter if you did not share your email address with her.  The typed letters are coming home with your child today.

I wanted to let all parents know that you can send the new, wrapped book for the book exchange any time next week.  I will create a place for students to label and store their book for safe keeping until Friday's party.  Since students do not really need their backpack that Friday, this will eliminate one thing for them to carry.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and don't forget to pre-register if you plan to attend the party.  A green form went home in the Wednesday folder yesterday for this process.

Thank you all!!!

PHOTOGRAPHER NEEDED!

Dear 5th Grade Parents,

We are looking for some help with the photography of our 5th graders.

We need a volunteer who owns their own camera and is able to attend all 5th grade events. Your role will include taking pictures of the kids individually and in large groups. We would also like for you to create a Shutter Fly account for all the photos taken.

If you are willing to help and have a camera of your own....please contact your Room mom.

Thank you,

Room moms

5th Grade wear PJ's on Thursday, December 21st for our showing of the Polar Express in the Library!!!

Upcoming Science CBA

Next week on Wednesday, November 15th, we will be taking the district science Curriculum Based Assessment (or CBA).  This is an assessment that covers all material taught so far this year.  We will spend some time on Monday and Tuesday reviewing the standards we have learned so far in preparation for Wednesday's test.

Attn: Mrs. Abueita's Homeroom

If you have not already done so, would you please kindly complete the form sent home by our room mom, Mrs. Reyna, last Friday.  It was sent home in your child's blue homework folder.  There were 3 total pages - a letter from Mrs. Reyna in both English and Spanish, as well as a form to be completed for each student.  This information will help her to remain in communication with you about PTO events, class parties, and 5th grade activities.  Please check your child's blue homework folder, complete the form, and return it to school at your earliest convenience.  I will make sure the forms get to Mrs. Reyna.

Thank you for your help with this!

International Day

Creekview Elementary is an amazingly diverse place and we would like to celebrate that diversity with our students. On Nov. 17 from 9:00-11:00, we will host an International Day. We are asking parents from all of our cultures to come to school on that day and share about their culture with our students. Please sign up by midnight on November 5th.

While some of the specific decisions like lengths of presentations will be determined by our number of volunteers, here is a basic outline of what we ask that you be willing to do...

  • 15-20 minute presentation
  • Present to multiple classes and grade levels
  • Wear traditional clothing (if available)
  • Provide a very hands on and interactive presentation
  • Bring props / artifacts that can be touched
  • Teach the students a dance
  • Teach some of the language or a song
  • Try some of the food (would have to be store bought)
  • Show some pictures of special places (computer and projector would be available)

If you would be willing to be a part of this process and share about your culture, please sign up below. We will contact you with more specific information when we reach the sign-up deadline.

DEADLINE: MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH
