It's finally SUMMER TIME!!!  Hope everyone has an amazing summer with friends and family!  Enjoy every moment!!!
See you back at Creekview in August!
Welcome to 3rd Grade and to Creekview Elementary School - a Great Expectations Model School for the second year in a row!

This LAST Week in 3rd Grade (5/29 - 5/31)

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend!  HERE WE GO – THE LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL!!!

  • Our 3rd grade field trip is scheduled for TOMORROW (Tuesday, May 29th)!  The 3rd grade teachers are asking our students to wear their Field Day t-shirts for our field trip.  If possible, please send your child in his/her NEON BLUE Creekview Field Day t-shirt tomorrow so we are better able to keep track of each other during our field trip!  It is going to be a hot day tomorrow so if you’d like your child to bring a hat or sunglasses to wear during the field trip, that would be fine!  Also, if your child is going to be bringing a lunch from home for tomorrow’s field trip, please send it in a paper or plastic bag with his/her name on the bag.  Please do not send your child’s lunch in his/her regular lunch box as these will be harder to keep track of after lunchtime is over.
  • We will continue sending home notebooks, folders, and other school supplies over the next couple of days as we clean out our desks and totes. The Wednesday Folder does NOT need to be returned on Thursday.  Also, the students will not need to bring their backpacks to school on Thursday as the only thing that will be going home that day will be the final report card.
  • Our end-of-year classroom party will be held on the LAST day of school (Thursday, May 31st) from 11:45 – 12:30.  I hope to see many of you there!  Just a reminder – we will have Early Dismissal that day at 12:50.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hope everyone has a great week and an INCREDIBLY AWESOME SUMMER! :)

This Week in 3rd Grade (5/21 - 5/25)

Hope everyone had a great weekend!  It’s so hard to believe that the end of the school year is right around the corner!

  • We have completed our math fact quizzes for this Nine Weeks so there will not be a test this week!
  • There will be no math homework this week.
  • In math, we will begin to “Step Up to 4th Grade” by solving 3-digit addition and subtraction problems using the standard algorithm. We will also find the product of two 2-digit numbers using various strategies (arrays, area models, the expanded algorithm/partial products, and the standard algorithm).
  • In science, we will continue learning how energy flows through ecosystems in a food chain and how changes in a food chain can affect the entire ecosystem. We will have our Spring District Benchmark for science this Wednesday, 5/23.  We will be reviewing for the benchmark in class on Monday and Tuesday. After the benchmark, the students will begin a “Feature Creature” activity by choosing an ecosystem and an animal within that particular ecosystem to research in class.
  • Creekview’s Talent Show will be held this Thursday evening (5/24) beginning at 7:00. There will be some incredible student acts as well as a teacher act or two - should be a very fun and entertaining time!
  • There will be no school next Monday (5/28) due to the Memorial Day holiday. Our last day of school will be next Thursday (5/31).  We will have early dismissal that day at 12:50!
  • Our 3rd grade field trip is scheduled for Tuesday, May 29th - what a fun way to begin our last week of school following our long holiday weekend!  The field trip permission form went home in last week’s Wednesday Folder. Please return the field trip permission slip as soon as possible if you have not already done so.

Have a great week and a wonderful long holiday weekend!

THANK YOU so very much for all of the gifts and cards I received for Teacher Appreciation Week.  Every flower, bag or box of candy, card, and generous gift made me feel so special and appreciated.  I was completely overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity, and I just wanted to let you know how much all of your thoughtful gifts and kind words meant to me.  It’s hard to believe the end of the school year is only a few weeks away.  I am looking forward to enjoying these last few weeks with your children as I have been blessed to be their teacher this year.  Although it will be sad to see them go, I know they are prepared and ready for 4th grade.  Thank you once again for your thoughtfulness and generosity!

This Week in 3rd Grade (5/14 - 5/18)

Well, it’s finally here - STAAR Testing for 3rd Grade begins TOMORROW!

  • The STAAR Math Test will be administered on Monday, May 14th, and the STAAR Reading Test will be administered on Tuesday, May 15th!
  • Just a reminder - All backpacks will need to be left at home tomorrow and Tuesday. The only things the students will need to bring to school are library books and/or other books from home for reading once all testing is completed.  All snacks and bottled water will be provided by the school on Monday and Tuesday. The students may bring lunches (and lunch boxes) from home if they choose to do so.  The cafeteria will be serving sack lunches on Monday and Tuesday. Please keep in mind that we will not be having any visitors or volunteers on campus this Monday (5/14), Tuesday (5/15), and Wednesday (5/16) due to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade STAAR testing that will be taking place on those days.  Please make sure that your child gets plenty of sleep as well as a healthy breakfast the mornings of testing!  Please remind them to read carefully, do their best work, and take their time so as not to make careless mistakes.  Please reiterate that this is their time to shine and show all they’ve learned this year!
  • Our eighth timed test for this Nine Weeks will be recorded this Friday, 5/18. It will cover mixed multiplication and division facts through 10 x 10 and 100 ÷ 10.
  • In science, we will wrap up our learning about how different plants and animals grow and change during their life cycles. We will be taking our assessment on adaptations and life cycles this Thursday, May 17th (possibly Friday).  I will be sending home a hard copy of a guide listing key concepts so the students will have a reference to help them study and prepare for the upcoming test. I will email a copy to you as well. After the unit test, we will be learning how energy flows through ecosystems in food chains and food webs and how changes in food chains can affect an entire ecosystem.
  • Creekview’s Field Day for 3rd grade is scheduled for this Friday, May 18th from 1:00 - 3:10.  I will be sending home the neon blue class Field Day t-shirts as soon as I get them in hand. We hope many of you will be able to join us that afternoon as we enjoy some much-anticipated fun in the sun!

Hope everyone has a great week!  Please let me know if you have any questions! Thank you!

A Request from the 3rd Grade Teachers!

Please read below and then click on the Sign Up Genius link found directly underneath this post!  Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Dear Parents,

You have wholly supported us this year, and we are blessed by your active participation.  Please help us celebrate your children one more time before year's end. To help the children "de-stress," we want to have a fun day on Friday rather than cramming before the test.  Though it is VERY short notice, this coming Friday, May 11, we would love to have a STAAR candy buffet.

This seems like a LOT of items, but remember that it is a grade-level experience, so we are preparing the event for all 5 teachers which is 125 students.

If you are able, please select an item to help our little family band have a fun day.  Please send with your sweet kiddo by Thursday morning, May 10.    Thank you so much for all that you’ve done for us and your kids this year.

This Week in 3rd Grade (5/7 - 5/11)

I hope everyone’s weekend is off to a great start!  My family and I are planning to spend tomorrow fishing in the bay so I’m sending my update a little earlier than usual!

This week in 3rd grade…

  • In math, we will continue our general review of key math learning standards in order to prepare for the upcoming STAAR test.  We only have one week to go until STAAR testing! The STAAR Math test is scheduled for Monday, May 14th, and the STAAR Reading test will be administered on Tuesday, May 15th.
  • There will be NO math homework this week!  The students will be completing a “Countdown to the Math STAAR” assignment (similar to their past homework assignments) in class for independent practice.
  • In science, we will explore the life cycles of some plants and animals, and we will then be learning about food chains and food webs.
  • Our eighth math fact test for this Nine Weeks will be recorded this Friday, May 11th!  This test will cover all mixed division facts through 100 ÷ 10. We will be practicing these specific clusters of facts in class, but please study them at home as well.  Please remind your child to use their multiplication facts to help them recall their related division facts. Similar to previous weeks, I will not be timing the students as they take their math fact test. I will simply give them their test papers and ask them to complete the problems untimed.

Thank you for all of your support and help at home!  Please let me know if you have any questions!

This Week in 3rd Grade (4/30 - 5/4)

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!
